Snowy Hydro is building its new 660MW gas & hydrogen-fired power station in the NSW Hunter Valley, due online 2024, using a disaggregation model for the contracting approach. This involves direct procurement by the Snowy Hydro team of 20 key packages of over $250m equipment spend, including separate designer & contractor works responsibilities by AECOM and UGL, rather than the traditional EPC or EPCM models.
This approach builds transparency but also helps navigate the high-risk profile Snowy Hydro envisaged early in 2022 – including global materials shortages, international supply chain challenges and the inevitability of these problems risking delivery milestones. All equipment supply packages are currently on schedule as planned, where the heightened SRM built through such a co-operative model has heightened confidence of full DIFOT and broader positive outcomes downstream.
