SRM: The importance of being important (VIRTUAL)

Supplier relationships are critical to any enterprise that has significant spend with external providers.  We all know various ways to determine their value to us.  But how do we determine our importance to them? Not from our eyes, but from theirs.  What if they don’t want to be SRMed, leveraged, or anything else?
